Time, peace, freedom

August 1, 2009

Saturday morning isn’t over yet, but already I feel rested and relaxed. Sleeping in helped, and there are three other small but beautiful things that have me getting to a place where I can take a deep breath, and find my balance once more:

Boiled egg

A simple breakfast, a boiled egg with toast. My weekday morning routine is less than perfect. If I have time for breakfast, it is a quick piece of toast, eaten while standing in the kitchen. This mornings breakfast was simple, but it took more than one minute to make, and then I sat down to eat it, no hassle, no rush, just time.

I have the house to myself. So far, my morning has been free of the radio and television. There are no fellow train commuters to navigate, no ipods, no quarrels. There are sounds – the ticking of the clock, the faint sound of traffic, and the occasional warbling of birds – but they’re not invasive in any way, they belong.

After half an hour scampering up and down the house, my cat has finally twigged that he can go outside any time he likes. I can see him now, crouched low, stalking a blade of grass.

Oh that sounds like the perfect Saturday morning – the simplicity, the lack of structure…just taking enjoyment in ‘being’.

It sure contrasts with the busy weekdays where we are constantly on the move, monitoring the time and conscious of what else we should be doing…

I love the look of your breakfast too! Yum!! 8)

Thanks, it was a good morning – although the weekend soon picked me up and started sprinting towards Monday!
