1. Captain Malcolm Reynolds (I was crushed when Firefly was cancelled. Such a good show. And Captain Mal is the best Captain ever, in my humble opinion. Gorgeous, noble, courageous, that coat, those boots – what more do you need?)
2. Captain Jack Sparrow (Bring me that horizon!)
3. Captain Jean Luc Picard (Make it so)
4. Captain Jack Harkness (The name Jack really does follow ‘Captain’ nicely, doesn’t it? It took me ages to come around to Captain Harkness; I hated him in Dr Who, but thought he was pretty great in Torchwood.)
5. Captain Planet (there’s a space in my brain that will always and forever belong to the theme tune. The power is yours!)

He is not technically a Captain…but I say Admiral Adama from the new Battle Star Galatica.
Ooh, nice one. I’m a big BSG fan, and they’ve got awesome Admirals/Captains/Lieutenants aplenty!

Hi Rachel, welcome! Always nice to meet a fellow Firefly (and Captain Mal) fan. You’re right – he’s got a great scowl, but a great smile too … sigh.
We like Captains around here. Although he is not yet a captain in the TV series I’m a bit partial to Captain Horatio Hornblower; my partner loves Captain Jack Aubrey in the Patrick O’Brien novels; my daughter is obsessed with Captain Cutler from the original Scooby Doo (go figure) and my son loves Captain Feathersword!
Sweet Horatio Hornblower! He’s a fave of mine too, but then so is pretty much any character played by Ioan Gruffordd!
Your daughter sounds pretty awesome, and it’s good that your son is already cultivating an interest in Captains! Mine started with Captain Pugwash, I must confess!

Oh yes, I forgot! Captain Pugwash is big at our house too. I can’t believe I missed Firefly.
