::: From Petalena :::

I’m not really into Valentine’s Day so much, at least not as far as the generic stuff – all impersonal roses and babies breath and the like – but I’m all for celebrating it in a small, personal way, for taking the opportunity to make a romantic gesture. But generally I believe that if you have someone you love, then every day should be opportunity to express it and celebrate it. I love this attitude to Valentine’s Day – I think it’s pretty ideal.

I also love peonies and (non-generic) roses. They’re such generous flowers. I love daffodils for their silliness, daisies for their friendliness and poppies, because they make my heart glad.

I love the idea of being with a man who is comfortable with himself (and with me!), who is emotionally available with a good sense of silly. Someone optimistic who appreciates colour and creativity, someone passionate, demonstrative, communicative and respectful. Someone who is willing to put in more than a modicum of effort! I know these men do exist – some of my friends are with them – I’m just looking for the one that is mine. And I love knowing that I am worthy of that, and that I shouldn’t have to settle for anything less.

I love stories, there are so many good ones. Big and small, fantastical and everyday. They are how we forge connections. They are what make life worth living.

I love blogging. I do. It makes me happy.

I love this cooler weather, and the smell of banana bread baking in the oven.

I love this poster.

I love reading three beautiful things, even more so now that Claire has had Alec (which is one of my all-time favourite names).

I love this jewellery – I think I’m going to get myself something pretty from here for my birthday.

I love a large flat white and a bacon and egg roll (with tomato and chilli sauce, thanks) from my local cafe on a Saturday morning.

I love my friends, the ones who are far away and missed, and the ones who are close-by, those who I don’t get to catch up with often enough, and those who are up-to-date with all the latest and are always willing and ready to be there for me, whether it’s an email of support or a quick drink after work.

Happy Valentine’s Day! As I said last year, whether you’re a singleton or are blissfully coupled up, remember to show yourself kindness and love, and give it freely to others whenever you get the opportunity.
