Saturday Snippets!

September 4, 2010

So I’m back in Tunbridge Wells and there’s no festival going on. What the hell? What am I meant to do with my time? What do you mean ‘make a decision about what to do next.’ Pfft. (Combine that with my traditional September meltdown and we could be in for trouble. And by we I mean me and any number of my beautiful friends who happen to ask, ‘hey, how are you?’ Sorry friends!) So while I contemplate that I’ll just be over here catching up with my Google reader. Crapsticks. There’s more stuff to be read there than there were motherfucking snakes on that motherfucking plane. But who cares?! More to enjoy! Let’s dive in and see what’s looking shiny, yes?

I’ve had this song in my head for days now – not that I’m complaining – if a song’s going to get stuck in my head I could do a lot worse than the Beatles.

Do you all read the lovely Jeanine‘s wonderings & wanderings already? If not, you should. It was one of my August Break discoveries (I think, or maybe it was through Leonie) and has great writing and great photography – two of my favourite things. It’s had me settling in to read the archives, which I think really is the best compliment I can give a blog. I have to admit this post and this one had me feeling envious and sorry for myself (I like whisky and cute English boys, where’s my holiday romance? or, dare I say, the love of my life? I’m here, willing and ready. so, universe, in case you lost my request, I’m filing it again, in triplicate. cheers). But I’m happy for Jeanine, because she’s obviously well deserving of big time love. (aren’t we all? p.s – did I mention it’s September already? this was meant to be my year!)

Speaking of love, this photographer’s apartment in Brooklyn is, well, I think the appropriate word is PHWOAR.

{4 Layer Cake by Paul Fearney}

If I was in San Francisco, I would definitely have gone to see the new exhibition by Paul Ferney. But I’m not, so I can’t. But what I can do is check out all of his delectable paintings of cakes when they go on sale online on the 6th. Yepyepyep.

“Planning to write is not writing. Outlining, researching, talking to people about what you’re doing, none of that is writing. Writing is writing.” And to you E.L. Doctorow, I say Grrr. Aargh.

Unfortunately I can relate a little too well with this advice on how to write a novel. (via @kramblings)

Perhaps I’ll distract myself with these chalkboard speech bubbles which are currently whispering my name, calling for a photo project …

“And I am to be replaced in the images by a cat.” I love this interview by Simon Armitage with Morrissey. Although Morrissey scares me a little, to be sure.

I’m planning on a spree in Zara (a shopping spree, not a crime spree, in case you were wondering) before I head back to Oz – I love their stuff and, alas, it seems their fab new online store ships to everywhere in the known world except Australia.

And while we’re online shopping, I’m forever seeing gorgeous vintage dresses and the like, but never go ahead and buy because I’m confused about the sizing/measurements. You too? Well then, get thee to A Beautiful Mess for a most excellent guide.

You know, I watch my fair share of videos on youtube, and more often than not, they can’t hold my attention and I switch off less than halfway through. But this one had me entranced. And what is it of? It’s of a freaking couch being reupholstered. No, I’m not kidding. Is this what comes with turning 30? I’m blaming the awesome soundtrack. (via poppytalk)

Actually, to prove I’ve not gone completely mad, I also loved this video. It’s very good for a giggle. (via Why, That’s Delightful!)

Right then. That’s all we have time for this evening, so its Goodnight from me. And its Goodnight from Her. Goodnight.

And happy weekend!

Another awesome post … I love these little rambling journeys through your days and your thoughts … they are a delight! 🙂

Best of luck with making that decision about what do to next … sometimes with great choice comes great responsibility! 😉 (or at least something kind of like that!) … haha

Thanks Tracey – I think I’m just delaying the decision for as long as I possibly can. Hmmm …
